About John (Caleb) Simmons, MD

  • Dr. Simmons is a native Texan, born in Houston and raised in San Antonio, spending time on his grandparents’ Angus cattle ranch near Lampasas in Central Texas. He has two young children and says, “being a father is the best job I’ve ever had.” Dr. Simmons enjoys reading history and fiction, and writes novels and children’s stories in his spare time. He and his wife love to travel and sample other cultures and cuisines. He also loves a good joke! One of his favorite local spots is Lake Travis, where, he says, “it’s hard to find a more beautiful or peaceful sunset… than out there.” Dr. Simmons and his wife also enjoy Fredericksburg for “a good meal and the quiet.”

While volunteering at Texas Children’s Hospital in Houston during college, I saw science put into practical action and how that could help children, and that motivated me to choose medicine. After going to medical school in Dallas, I really enjoyed surgery, which offered the ability to fix a problem for a patient. Otolaryngology was a surgical specialty that treated children, and it offered a great variety of different surgeries and delicate anatomy that fascinated me. I am a listener first, and really enjoy learning about my patients and their families. I believe in evidence-based medicine, making recommendations in the context of what each patient and family needs, including surgery when it is needed.

Dr Simmons was very friendly and professional. He gave me all my options, considering what little information he had, He was assuring he would do his best. Getting an ultrasound done soon. He can get a better idea then. I would definitely go back to him.
